EducationI attended high school in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at St. Michael's High, where I graduated in 2009 and obtained a high school diploma with honors and a 4.35 GPA.
In 2013, I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor's degree. I graduated with honors.
In 2013, I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with my Master's degree in Structural Engineering. While at Notre Dame, I studied deployable bridge design and dynamic structures.
ExperienceMost of my life, has been spent in education, through one means or another.
My mother is a teacher, and as soon as I was old enough, she helped me get involved in montorship programs to help students in younger grades learn to read, write, and perform math. In high school, I tutored younger classmen in writing, algebra, and gemoetry.
When I got to college, I worked with the local MESA program to teach math in interactive and engaging ways to low-income schools during after-school programs. I also participated in CU's education prep courses, Step I and Step II, where I wrote and taught educational units on math and science topics.
When in graduate school, I wrote the curriculum for and was lead educator of a high school engineering outreach program called BRIDGES while attending grad school at Notre Dame.
I have always enjoyed tutoring and teaching. I feel that it not only allows students an opportunity to succeed academically where otherwise they might not, but it also gives them the confidence they need to tackle new problems on their own.
Step 1 and Step 2 (education courses)
Calculus I, II, and III
Critical Encounters (college course in literature and philosophy)
I also spent several years writing for the local paper in Santa Fe, New Mexico and so have quite a bit of experience with writing and editing.
HobbiesI am a structural engineer in Boulder, CO with a penchant for baking and a love of literature. My mother is a school administrator who used to be a teacher, so most of my life has been spent amidst the varied worlds of education. When not studying, I spend my time reading, cooking, rock climbing, and snow boarding. I feel passionately when a person feels that they are "bad" at a specific subject, it is not their failing, but rather the subject being taught in a language that person doesn't yet understand. I enjoy opening those doors and helping people to learn those languages.
