Experience

Received 165/170 GRE Verbal - 95% As a twenty something who has recently taken the GRE, I’d like to help you demystify this exam. Having studied extensively for the GRE and I am now intimately familiar with many of the tips, strategies, best prep materials, and online tools that makes nailing a 165 possible. I would be happy to share my test taking practices, especially if you are looking to boost your verbal score. For example, here's one counterintuitive tip...The logic goes that it’s better to finish with time to spare and review your answers later. Yet this gut reaction might end up costing you more points than guessing on one or two questions at the end of a section, especially on the verbal section. Every time you encounter a long passage, you must invest precious time to carefully absorb the content. Skipping through the passage and then fumbling through the associated questions with plans to double-check your answers at the end is inefficient. Even if you are able to finish with ten minutes to spare, you will most likely have forgotten the particulars of the long passage and will have to reread it, costing yourself additional time. As stress inducing as this may sound, a better approach to timing for some might be to finish the last question of the section with only a minute or two to spare. That is not to say that you should never skip a hard question and return to it later, however you may discover that in taking longer to fully absorb the finer points of a passage, you may be less likely to be swayed by some of the trap answers and thus boost your score overall.

Hobbies

I enjoy rock climbing in Boulder Canyon, reading (mostly nonfiction), doing pastel drawings, and blogging. Occasionally, I'll learn a new song on guitar or tackle a difficult recipe from the cook book Momofuku. I'm enjoying all my new found free time, having finished studying for the GRE! Happy to help anyone get started on achieving their target-score dreams.
