Experience

__I have been a TA for organic chemistry at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and I designed and edited the lab manual for that course. I love teaching OChem, and I have a lot of experience doing just that.__ __Looking for GRE tutoring? I'm not only a highly experienced tutor in math, science and language, I'm very knowledgeable about the test itself, and I can help you prepare and practice the right way. ACT and SAT help is also a specialty of mine.__ _EXCITING NEWS! Starting in 2015, I will be offering basic lab experience tutoring to interested students! This includes such techniques as distillation, chromatography, vacuum filtration and crystallization! Even better, I will have access to both a top of the line microscope with eyepiece camera and melting point apparatus! I can bring these to your home if certain safety precautions are in place, or you can come to my home for a lesson, so make sure to let me know if this interests you!_ I am a 25 year old lover of language, science and mathematics pursuing a career in biochemistry. Until age 22, I was without focus in my life, having a dismal high school record and merely adequate grades--I applied to CU Boulder with a GPA of 2.5--in my undergraduate studies; however, change is always possible: I now have a GPA of 3.65. I have discovered an immense love for science and mathematics that I hope to share. This on top of my already long-standing passions of art and language. I'm an A student in Chemistry and Biology, I have been an amateur tutor and autodidact all my life and I have worked as a TA for the Organic Chemistry courses at CU Boulder. I earned my high school diploma ahead of schedule, earning a 32 on the ACT exam and a 4/5 on the AP Language and Composition exam, and teaching high school students over the years has reminded me of what it was like in those days, making me an excellent choice for ACT/SAT study help. Furthermore, I have been diagnosed with ADD since age 11, and if this is something you and your child struggle with, I have ample experience as a student with ADD and a teacher of students with ADD. Subjects I am well prepared to teach up to the undergraduate level include: -Chemistry, including: "General", organic, bio-, and physical. -Biology, including molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology experimental/population genetics, evolutionary theory, etc. -Calculus, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and arithmetic. -Writing. How to write well, that is: whether you're writing a research paper or a novel, I can teach you to know the English language as well as you feel it. -Introductory physics (i.e. classical mechanics and electromagnetism). I have a gift for expressing complex ideas in ways that are easy to grasp, especially in regards to physics as it applies to chemistry, and I do so with the intent of providing a context to the subject matter that makes its importance immediately relevant and its consequences fascinating. If I can go from skipping school to full-fledged academia, so can you or your child (or both!).

Hobbies

I'm somewhat stern and serious in demeanor, but I'm friendly and professional, considering integrity, honesty and diligence to be the most important qualities one can have. I have an excitement for the discoveries and evolving intellect of the human race that I try to bring into discussions of the scholastic variety. I've proven patient and committed when asked to explain or teach. I grew up focused solely on art as a skill and ultimate career, but gravitated more to the sciences as I grew older (though I continue to improve my artistic abilities). I know what it's like to hate school and feel detached from academia, and skipped most of the last few years of high school. Somehow I managed to graduate early, get a 4 on the AP Language and Composition exam, and a 32 on my ACT. If you have an intelligent child that loathes school, I may be able to help. In my spare time, I read a great deal of fiction and non-fiction. I enjoy reading science and engineering blogs such as In the Pipeline and Tetrapod Zoology. I also draw, paint and play the guitar in my spare time, whenever I can get some.
