Education
I'm in the process of writing my senior thesis in the philosophy of literature to graduate with a liberal arts degree in philosophy.
Experience
I spent my senior year abroad at Oxford University, studying Plato, Shakespeare, Political Philosophy, and Religion, receiving high marks in all. Weekly, I read hundreds of pages and wrote at least one eight-page scholarly essay, sometimes two. My favorite literary genre to write is creative non-fiction, the stuff of Joan Didion and David Foster Wallace. If you'd like, I will send you one of my pieces. I've read ceaselessly since I began to love literature -- from Dante, Rilke, and Montaigne in English to Jorge Louis Borges and Gabriel Garcia Marquez in Spanish. As for my Spanish language expertise, I grew up in Mexico, making Spanish my first language. I hope to attend the National University of Mexico (UNAM) to study a graduate degree in Spanish literature. Apart from my emphasis on language and literature, I studied classical piano, attending a music school in Ohio and a conservatory in Morelia, Michoacán, México. I've placed at many competitions, including Second Prize at the Young Artist Concerto Competition and won some, including the concerto competition at my school, where I excelled in Music Theory and Aural Skills. I've accompanied countless other musicians and supplied the music at over a dozen weddings. I improvise in jazz and blues and have played guitar for seven years. During my undergraduate studies, I studied Latin and ended up translating chapters from the Vulgate Bible. (Note: I'd love to start tutoring around the beginning of October. I'm working a full-time job till then. It could still fit alongside tutorials, but it would easiest to start tutorials once the job ends.)

Hobbies
I'm currently working for a farm to table called Meadow Lark Farm Dinners, where I've been privileged to learn to cook from an Italian chef and have made friends with a motley collection of inspiring people. Regarding academics, I'm extremely driven and disciplined. But, when in the company of friends, I'm gentle-mannered and enjoy a bounty of excursions and laughs. During my spare time this summer, I've continued my readings in Shakespeare, enjoying the plays at the Colorado Shakespeare Festivals (which is now sadly over). I've been writing essays, learning Chopin, listening to Rachmaninoff, cycling up and down the mercilessly steep Linden Avenue, and enjoying the people and conversations that spring from living with my housemate, the eccentric, enthusiastic filmmaker, Dr. Aisner.
