Private tutor in Boulder, CO
Education
I graduated from Indiana University Northwest with High Honors and a B.A. in English Language and Literature with minors in Anthropology and Spanish. I am a currently a first-year graduate student in Linguistics at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Experience
During my undergraduate career, I mentored and hosted study sessions as a Supplemental Instructor for a total of 3.5 years: Introduction to Sociology for five semesters, Grammar and Usage for one semester, and History of the English Language, also for one semester. I was a tutor at my university's Writing Center for two years and was appointed Head Consultant after one year. I also tutored Spanish at my university's Modern Languages Lab, in addition to spending the summer of 2012 studying abroad in Spain, immersed in the language. I have tutored Spanish independently as well. I volunteered with a literacy program in Chicago where I worked one-on-one with high school students in low-income urban areas on college preparation, mostly helping them to write essays, cover letters, and resumés. I also worked as a paid freelance proofreader for doctorate and graduate student essays. I have presented work at a number of various conferences. Also a published poet, I am intimately familiar with the ways language works and what it can and cannot do.
