Experience

I am a certified teacher, and I've tutored on and off for over 20 years! I help students gain confidence and competence by developing relationships of critical care with them, seeing them as whole beings, and connecting learning to topics they care about or already know about. I've tutored elementary math to Algebra, Spanish, English as a Second Language, study skills, academic anxiety reduction, time management, mindfulness skills, and navigating relations with teachers and school personnel. I've also helped MA students write papers for their capstone portfolios. I am passionate about stretching students to do what they weren't sure they could do. I love taking the content to be learned, breaking it down into all the pieces that could make it accessible, and scaffolding learning step by step, building on students' learning styles, to achieve mastery. I tailor lessons directly to students, and build success for students who find school challenging. I look for that 'sweet spot' to provide just the right amount of support and challenge.
