I have tutored several middle-school-aged and high-school-aged students in a variety of formats - getting them an entire class ahead in school, reviewing topics after school a few days a week, or anything in between. I love tutoring because it is great to be able to teach kids one-on-one. It is very important to me to try to figure out how each kid learns and thinks about math, and figure out how to teach them in a way that they will understand. I really think that everyone can understand and enjoy math if it is taught to them in a way that fits with the way their brain works and what they care about. Our math education system unfortunately tends to teach kids that math is about memorizing rules, and I try to give them a deeper understanding because it will help them appreciate it more, remember it for longer, and enable them to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar problems
