I want to be a tutor because I believe that most schools do a poor job of teaching students how to reason, think, and write critically. I believe the best schools in the country accept students who not only have good grades, but are able to show the ability to critically reason. This is an easy problem to remedy, yet I do not see such instruction in most curricula today. I personally was deficient in this area until graduate school. Once I learned how to reason expertly on paper, a whole world opened up for me. I think I can easily teach students this invaluable tool.
I have been involved with a group of like minded individuals reading and discussing some of the best literature in the Western Canon for the past 15 years, and I believe I can share my knowledge about these works when tutoring students.
HobbiesI competed in college as an athlete and continued athletics after school. I attended law school and practiced law, but then later started my own specialty retail store. I have been a coach and have always loved sport, literature, design, art and food. These are still my passions, although my interest in competitive sports has shifted to a passion for a healthy and balanced lifestyle with both physical and intellectual pursuits. I think I am an empathetic person and have the patience and excitement necessary to be a good tutor.
