EducationJunior English Major at CU Boulder
ExperienceI had an interest in creative writing since I was very young, but it was not encouraged in my schools until late in my high school career. My English teacher rekindled my interest in writing, and encouraged me to continue. In order to become a better writer, I began seeking out new words, and my skills in writing as a whole improved as I continued to write for my own amusement. I was able to grasp the rules of the written language just by investing my own time into it, which lead me to believe that others should learn this way as well. I feel that the rules of writing should be discovered rather than taught, as was my experience. If a student sees in their own writing how each rule is applied, they are more likely to remember it in the future, rather simply being told what the rules are. Writing and reading skills are valuable to have no matter what a student wants to do in life, and being able to write in a coherent manner can make all the difference in achieving these goals.
